Tottenham decide to part ways with ex-Real Madrid star despite impressive loan performances this season

Reguilon sale part of Tottenham’s summer rebuild

Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to consider accepting a loss in a potential sale for left-back Sergio Reguilon by club insider John Wenham.

Sergio Reguilon has enjoyed a roller coaster campaign in the recently concluded season. He ended the season with a splendid spell of form at city neighbors Brentford after spending the first half of the season on loan at Manchester United, which was called splits by the Red Devils in the winter window as Luke Shaw made his injury comeback.

The Spaniard has made only 67 appearances wearing Tottenham colours after signing from Real Madrid on a five-year deal worth £32 million in 2020. However, his struggles to adapt to life in England have led to a series of loan moves. The 27-year-old spent time out on loan at Real Madrid rivals Atletico Madrid as well.

The rise of Italian ace Destiny Udogie in his position has more or less shut the door at White Hart Lane for the Spaniard, and as things stand, it is difficult to see him overtake the former Udinese star in the Spurs’ pecking order.

Wenham insists Spurs need to be “realistic” in transfer market

Owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, John Wenham, insists that the North Londoners must be “realistic” about the fee that Sergio Reguilon commands. He acknowledges that the former Madrid star will command no more than £5 million this summer.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“Reguilon did well overall at Brentford. I think there will be interest in him, but Tottenham needs to be realistic. At best, you’re looking at getting £5 million for him. It would be a huge loss for the club and Levy, but sometimes you just have to move players on.”

Moving players on seems to be the vibe at White Hart Lane this summer as the club enters a summer rebuild, and we could see Sergio Reguilon being sold as a part of the overhaul.
