Tottenham will not have an easy time signing £80m-rated defender
According to a report by GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham Hotspur could have to pay upto £80m to sign Premier League defender, Jarrad Branthwaite. The Lilywhites are not the only club that have set their sights on the 21-year-old.
It is being reported that Manchester United and Manchester City are also keen on signing Branthwaite. However, the Red Devils will not be willing to pay the quoted price for the 21-year-old defender.
So, all Tottenham have to do is outbid Manchester United and then they can have a fair battle with Man City for Branthwaite. But, Everton are strapped for money and need an immediate sale to help them comply with FFP regulations.
If they’re unable to move Branthwaite in time, Everton could be hit with a points deduction. So, this puts all the teams interested in the 21-year-old in a strong position. One can even try and pressure Everton into making a deal for the money.
Moreover, £80m seems like a price tag too rich even for the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite. If the 21-year-old was the finished article, it would make sense to be splashing that kind of money on him. However, Branthwaite has a long way to go.
What’s exciting about the 21-year-old is how refined his defensive game is for such a young player. Also, his freakishly tall frame of 1.95m makes him an excellent defender and shot blocker.
