Dream signing or distant hope? Tottenham still hold interest in Barcelona star Raphinha
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Barcelona winger Raphinha, albeit per the latest by Mundo Deportivo (via. TEAMtalk), the Brazilian winger is set to be approached by a Saudi Arabian side that is preparing a massive offer to land the former Leeds United ace.
The North Londoners have been labelled as potential suitors for Barcelona’s number 11, with Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo describing them as a realistic prospect a while back. Tottenham hold a long-standing interest in signing the Brazilian, and there is a distinct possibility that they can finally secure his services. But can they deal with the Saudi Pro League’s interests?
Can Spurs afford Raphinha?
Raphinha is one of the players that the Catalan-based side has put on the sale list owing to the financial situation of the club, which has had a domino effect on their need to sell. The latest Spanish publication states that ‘discussions’ have already been initiated in connection with a potential move to Saudi Arabia for the winger.
The report also states that one of the Saudi Pro sides is willing to spend ‘at least €100m’ (£85m) on Raphinha’s services.
Barcelona would be forced to consider such a mammoth financial offer, which could improve their financial situation and potentially alleviate some of the financial pressures currently facing the club. However, it is also to be highlighted that the player does not want to move to the Middle East while the clubs try to change his mind.
Tottenham and Newcastle United are named as two clubs still holding an interest in landing Raphinha; however, neither club would be willing to match the Saudi financials for the 27-year-old.
