The Next Bellingham? Tottenham eye Sunderland Midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to move for highly acclaimed Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, per The Guardian’s Ed Aarons.
The highly-rated teenager coming from the same bloodline as Champions League winner Jude Bellingham fuels his pursuit; however, Jobe has shown that he can replicate his brother’s performances from the middle of the park. The 18-year-old is linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light, only one year after he joined them from Birmingham City.
The Lilywhites have changed their transfer policy lately as they are keeping a keen eye on signing high-potential young profiles who can be shaped as per Ange Postecoglou’s long-term needs. Daniel Levy & Co. are looking into the English market for their next prototype as the Spurs intensify their bid to sign Jobe Bellingham.
The teenager contributed seven goals and one assist in forty-five appearances for Sunderland last season, and his stock has risen owing to the impressive shift he has put in the midfield for the Black Cats. His performances have gained national call-ups, as the 18-year-old has been called up to represent the Three Lions Under-20s in two friendlies against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.
Will Spurs win race for Bellingham?
The Guardian’s journalist Ed Aarons insists that Tottenham, along with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, are looking to sign the midfielder this summer. He also states that Brentford might turn out to be another possible destination for Jobe, making it difficult for his current employers to keep hold of him beyond the upcoming summer transfer window.
Jobe Bellingham is currently tied to Sunderland for three more years; however, there are beliefs that they would let him pursue pastures beyond the Stadium of Light if their valuation of £20 million is met.
Spurs could be persuaded to intensify their interest in his services, owing to his versatile profile. He can feature in the attacking midfielder role as well as in the number eight and striking roles. This could give Ange much-needed options in his tactical approach, allowing him to adapt formations and strategies according to the opposition and match situation.
