Tottenham is about to part ways with the record signing, who will leave as a free agent

According to a report from French publication Footmercato, Tottenham Hotspur will let go of club record acquisition Tanguy Ndombele following a dismal stint with the North London team.

Ndombele was one of Mauricio Pochettino‘s main objectives when he joined Spurs in the summer of 2019 for a record-breaking £65 million, but the midfield player has fallen short of expectations.

The midfielder has been out of the team since January 2022 and has been on loan at Galatasaray and Napoli for the past two seasons. He has only played 91 games and scored 10 goals since joining the team from French powerhouse Lyon, but he has lost the trust of many coaches.

Despite having a year remaining on his current contract, the North London team is ready to cut their losses and let the Frenchman go as a free agent, according to Footmercato.

Ironically, the 27-year-old has won titles back-to-back while on two loan stints away from the team. The midfielder have had decent loan spells unlike his Spurs tenure.

In 2022–23, he made 30 appearances for Napoli, helping the team win its first Serie A championship in more than three decades. He also played for Galatasaray, which just won the Turkish championship.

Tanguy Ndombele would certainly have great opportunities for his future. Leaving as a free agent, several clubs would be in line to secure the midfielder’s services.

Tottenham will not be able to give the 27-year-old enough game time until Ndombele starts proving himself to the club. It will be good for him to have a fresh start at a new club.
