Hutton advised Tottenham to sign Ivan Toney over Youssef En-Nesyri
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a marquee striker this summer, and former Spurs defender Alan Hutton suggests that the club should be looking to make a “statement signing” of Brentford ace Ivan Toney over pursuing a deal for Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri.
The Lilywhites are on the hunt for a new number nine this off-season owing to Harry Kane‘s departure last summer and the fact that the club has yet to effectively replace his services. Spurs have been linked with a move for Morocco international En-Nesyri, alongside Premier League rivals Manchester United and West Ham.
There have been reports in the Spanish media (via. El Mira) suggesting that the North Londoners would be willing to take advantage in the race for the 27-year-old ace by using Bryan Gil as a makeweight in a deal with Sevilla.
Hutton’s take on Spurs’ striker hunt with Toney deal on the cards
Speaking about the links with En-Nesyri, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Alan Hutton said:
“I’m not sure; I think he is a good player and played at a high level (but) I think if there’s an opportunity for him to go to West Ham and things like that, where they’re probably looking for a number nine as well, it might suit him.”
“It’ll just be interesting to see; you’ll get a feel for what Tottenham are going to do and where they think they’re going to be in the future with who they bring in.”
“If they go and make a statement signing and bring in an Ivan Toney, they’re looking to challenge. Not necessarily Manchester City, but definitely the top four, the likes of Arsenal, and things like that. But we’ll know who they bring in; I think they need to bring in someone like Toney.”

The Moroccan striker netted 16 goals in 33 appearances in the Spanish top tier last season, which is a decent record. However, signing a Premier League-proven striker with the quality of Ivan Toney makes more sense on the paper.
We will see if Daniel Levy thinks along the same lines as Alan Hutton and if he goes on to sign Ivan Toney, with whom Tottenham have already agreed personal terms over a move this summer.
