Ridiculed ex-Tottenham star wants to prove a point with latest transfer

Fresh start for ex-Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele as he joins OGC Nice

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has secured a move to French giants OGC Nice following the termination of his contract at White Hart Lane.

The French midfielder has endured a difficult spell at Hotspur Way after moving to North London in the summer of 2019 for a fee in the region of £63 million, which was a transfer record at N17. However, despite having very high potential, the Frenchman struggled to make it at the club. There are multiple problems we could note for the move not working out, from his clash with Jose Mourinho to falling down the pecking order under Conte.

Daniel Levy negotiated a couple of loan moves away to ensure that the Frenchman got his halo back as he moved to Napoli and Galatasaray, respectively. However, none of those worked out for Tanguy, and Spurs had to terminate his contract to get rid of his mighty wage bill on the books at White Hart Lane.

Now, he is back in the French league with OGC Nice, looking to not only rejuvenate his career but also prove his credentials. Speaking in an exclusive interview with French outlet Nice-Matin, the 27-year-old was quizzed about his new club and whether he has something to prove.

Ndomble admitted the fact that he has endured a complicated career so far before acknowledging that he has ‘got things to prove.’

The former Spurs midfielder said:

“Joining Nice is a natural choice, given my somewhat complicated career over the last few years. Coming back to France was the right choice for me. I’ve known Florian Maurice since my time at Lyon, and that’s also what tipped the balance. I had a good feeling that Nice was the best choice for me. I’m at a stage in my football life where I need to play. I want to rediscover some of my sensations. I’m happy to be here; the coach talks to me like he talks to all the players. There’s no guarantee of playing time, but I know I’ve got things to prove. The most important thing is the team.”
