Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg closing in on Olympique Marseille move
According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on the verge of leaving the club and joining Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille to play under ex-Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi.
Having been a regular starter for much of his time at the club, the Dane lost his starting role under Ange Postecoglou last season. He still had a crucial stint off the bench in most games, with the gaffer labelling the player as a ‘professional’ for the way he conducts himself.
The ex-Bayern Munich midfielder joined Spurs in 2020 during Jose Mourinho’s reign at the club. Under the Portuguese tactician, the 28-year-old was a regular feature in the team and one of the better players in the squad.
The 81-cap Danish international has made 184 appearances for Tottenham so far across all competitions (the most in his career), scoring 10 goals and providing 16 assists. From being a creative presence in Bayern to becoming an industrious midfielder at Spurs, Hojberg’s career has changed a lot.
Whilst the midfielder is certainly capable of playing at the highest level for a few more seasons, Postecoglou doesn’t seem to fancy giving him a starring role in the team. Thus, an exit is what is needed for all parties to make a clean break.
Romano has revealed that the French club have reached an agreement with the player over a move and have almost ironed out the details with Tottenham with only the final stages remaining in this transfer.
Roberto de Zerbi is proving to be a driving force behind the signings OM are making this summer. For very long, the Ligue 1 has been a one-horse race with an odd upset but things might be changing.
PSG may need to be wary of the Marseille-based team this season. All Premier League fans will know that De Zerbi can do magic with limited resources and he will have a clear plan on how to bring the best out of his players.

It looks like Hobjerg might not be a Spurs player for much longer. What he has been though is a great servant to the club and that legacy will live on for a long time.
