Scott Minto singles out Tottenham star Archie Gray for praise after initial performances

Speaking to talkSPORT (21/07/24 at 4:15 pm), ex-Chelsea ace Scott Minto has singled out Tottenham Hotspur signing Archie Gray for praise after his initial pre-season performances.

Gray joined from Leeds United in a surprise deal. The Yorkshire club needed to make a sale to balance their books before the end of the financial year and Tottenham swooped in and signed a generational talent.

The 18-year-old has been talked up since his move to the N17 and the hype train doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. Why would it slow down though if Gray keeps performing like he has in pre-season?

Before his move to North London, everyone knew that Gray was equally adept at playing in both the midfield and at right-back. However, Ange Postecoglou has given him a new role in the centre of defence in pre-season and the teenager has looked unfazed so far.

The English youngster seems to have a very calm head over his very young shoulders. Postecoglou has shown a trait of trusting youth provided they show they have what it takes to perform at this level.

Here is what Minto had to say about Archie Gray and how the ex-Leeds United starlet has caught the eye

“When he brought in the likes of Archie Gray and I think he started (pre-season) very well indeed. Massive talent. It’s going to be a lot to ask him to go straight into that Spurs side.”

If the pre-season is an early indication to go by, one can say with utmost confidence that Archie Gray will get a lot of game time under Ange Postecoglou despite his relatively young age. However, the situation might change once our regular centre-backs return.

That should not disturb Gray’s progress though. The teenager can easily slot in at right-back or in midfield. Who knows, maybe Postecoglou will pull another rabbit out of his hat and give the new signing a different position!
