Tottenham set to rival Liverpool for the signature of Eberechi Eze
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Liverpool for the signature of 26-year-old Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.
Eze has had a stupendous few months for both club and country. Along with Michael Olise, he was one of the stars for the Eagles last season. This earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad ahead of the likes of Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford.
The 26-year-old Englishman was once at a ‘crossroads’ in his career whilst at QPR in the Championship and was helped by Spurs vice-captain James Maddison. Eze could now unite with the ex-Leicester star at the N17.
Understandably, Eze is attracting a lot of interest in the Premier League circles but Tottenham and Liverpool seem like the two probable destinations at the moment. Both clubs could do with a new left-winger in the squad.
Spurs might also be looking at the Eagles man as a potential alternative to James Maddison. Eze has experience playing as the #10 and the left-wing and Postecoglou has shown that he values players who can play in multiple positions.
Eze had eight goal contributions in Crystal Palace’s last 10 Premier League games of the season, reflective of the club’s transition to a more attack-minded game style under Oliver Glasner. This is also reflected in the team’s results towards the end of the season.
As much as the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt coach would have wanted to keep hold of Olise and Eze and build a new project around them, he has already lost the former to Bayern Munich and might be set to lose the latter to one of Spurs or Liverpool.
At this moment, the Reds can offer Eze something that the Lilywhites cannot – Champions League football. However, Liverpool are likely to be in a period of transition under new head coach Arne Slot whereas Postecoglou’s project is already one year into this circle.
