Micky van de Ven reacts to Spurs farewell post of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg
Spurs defender Micky van de Ven recently reacted to an Instagram post made by Pierre-Emile Højbjerg as he completed his move from Spurs to French club Olympique de Marseille.
The Denmark international has moved to Marseille on an initial season-long loan which comes with an obligation to buy the midfielder for €20 million next summer.
Højbjerg, turning 29 this August, moved to Spurs in 2020 on the back of a €16.6m move from Southampton. During his time in North London, he made 184 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 times and providing 16 assists.
To acknowledge his Spurs departure, the 6’2″ player made a post on his Instagram channel.
On this post, Højbjerg received acknowledgement from his now-former teammate.
Højbjerg is technically still on Spurs’ books for another year, but his salary for this season will be paid in full by Marseille, which makes the Dane the French club’s highest-paid player with a contract that fetches him €6.18 million per year.
Højbjerg’s departure good for Spurs
It’s a good thing for Spurs that Højbjerg has been moved on. He was clearly surplus to requirements as far as Ange Postecoglou was concerned and advancing in years to the point that Spurs needed to make a timely call, which they now have.
