Spurs leave out Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilón from pre-season squad
Spurs have left out Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilón from the squad for their 2024/25 pre-season tour of Asia. The two players have been told to find new clubs for themselves ahead of next season.
For their pre-season, Spurs are on their way to Japan and Korea, with their first game set to be against J League champions Vissel Kobe this Saturday.
In releasing their squad info for this tour, Spurs also highlighted the absentees, with Gil and Reguilón being the two major ones.
The two Spain internationals found themselves surplus to requirement at Spurs last season in Ange Postecoglou’s first year in North London.
Gil, who moved to Spurs three summers ago from Sevilla for £21.6 million (Erik Lamela having gone the other way), was part of the Spurs first team last season after loan moves to Valencia and even back at Sevilla, though he found chances hard to come by as he made just 12 appearances across all competitions.
Reguilón, on the other hand, who moved to Spurs from Real Madrid four years ago on a £32m deal, spent the first half of last season on loan at Man United and the second half at Brentford.
Gil’s contract at Spurs, fetching him £40k per week, is set to run until June 2026, while Reguilón’s £53k-per-week contract runs until June 2025. (Source: Capology)
Gil and Reguilón need to leave for their own sake
When they were not spending time on loan elsewhere, Gil and Reguilón were warming the Spurs bench even before Postecoglou arrived.
While they’re both promising players, there’s also little doubt that their future at Spurs looks bleak, if there is a future at all.
