Tottenham Hotspur prepare lowball offer for Brentford striker Ivan Toney
According to an exclusive report by Give Me Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a lowball offer for Brentford striker Ivan Toney amidst interest from West Ham United.
Toney has been heavily linked with a move to the N17 this summer with the North London club on the lookout for a number nine who can be the long-term replacement for Harry Kane. The English captain now plays for Bayern Munich.
Ange Postecoglou chose to not sign a natural number nine last season as any player coming in would have struggled to fill the massive boots left behind by Kane. Ivan Toney wasn’t available due to a ban from playing football until January.
The English striker is one of those few strikers who has the pedigree and ability to replicate Harry Kane’s successes at the N17. Toney might not be as prolific as his English captain but he can do a good job.
Thomas Frank, his manager at Brentford was full of praise for the player. Here is what he had to say
“We also know what he’s worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.”
Brentford have reduced their asking price for Toney, realising that they might end up losing him on a free transfer next summer. Spurs are looking to take advantage of this situation and submit a lowball offer for the English international.
The Bees are shrewd negotiators in the transfer market. Whilst they will not want to let Toney leave for free, they are also not the kind of club that would get rolled over. Frank & co. will know the upsides of having the striker for one more season.
Toney deserves to play for a bigger club. He has outgrown Brentford but will forever go down as a legend at GTech Park. A move to Tottenham feels like a match made in heaven but a transfer fee needs to be agreed.
