Son Heung-min calls Ben Davies “family” as the latter reaches his tenth anniversary at Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min had nothing but praise for his teammate Ben Davies in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post shared on the official club profile.
The Welshman has completed ten years as a Spurs player and his being commemorated for the same by his employers.
The South Korean international said this about the 31-year-old:
“I’ve been at clubs where I’ve been close to players, but Ben has been really special, next level. I would say he’s my family member, someone I can really trust.
“I’m Godfather to Ben’s son, Ralph…Ben invited me into his family in an amazing way. To be Godfather…I’ve never felt like this, even though it’s not my son, I was getting emotional, and I was so grateful that Ben thought of me in that way.
“On the pitch, Ben is so consistent, never complains, works so hard, plays for the team. He’s a consummate professional, a player everyone can look up to.”
The Wales international arrived at White Hart Lane in 2014 on the back of a €12.65m move from Swansea City. He has since gone on to make more than 300 appearances for the North London club.
Last season was a trying one for Davies, however, as injuries and Ange Postecoglou‘s preferences restricted him to only 19 appearances across all competitions.
Interestingly, both Son and Davies are entering the final year of their respective contracts at Spurs. (Source: Capology)
Son and Davies are crucial parts of the Spurs dressing room
Unlike Son, Davies may not be a first-choice defender for Postecoglou, though there is no doubt he is a key part of his setup.
A versatile defender capable of playing as a fullback who can underlap and invert as well as a centre-back, Davies also brings to the table experience and composure that have seen him prevail in the Spurs setup over the last decade despite constant managerial turnover.

As he enters the final year of his contract, Spurs may be reluctant to hand him a mid-to-long-term deal given his age; they may not offer him a new deal at all. But they will unquestionably take into account his importance to the dressing room atmosphere before they make a call on him ahead of next season.
