Juventus make direct contact to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Karim Adeyemi
Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi who is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar was tipped for stardom a few seasons ago but his time at the Bundesliga hasn’t exactly been plain sailing despite some promising displays.
The Bundesliga club had a fairytale season, qualifying for the Champions League final where they were eventually pipped by serial winners Real Madrid. On a personal front though, Adeyemi struggled, with just five goals and two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his obviously underwhelming season, the 22-year-old has not been short of suitors, especially in the Premier League. Recognizing his true potential, Tottenham and Newcastle United have been credited with interest.
Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider was full of praise for the German attacker and endorsed a move to Tottenham. Here is what he said about the youngster
“He’s a nightmare for defenders. He gives your full-back a sleepless night, he’s one of those guys who’s very direct, he’s pacy, can go both ways. [He] really gets the fans excited, so I’m not surprised that this is what they’re looking at. The style of football that Tottenham plays, that’s what it’s like, it’s all action; all gung-ho, get at them and score as many goals as you want, so it doesn’t really surprise me.”
Now, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Serie A giants Juventus have leapfrogged Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Adeyemi with the Old Lady contacting the player’s camp over a potential deal.
Thiago Motta is building a new project at the club and has identified Adeyemi as one of the potential attacking weapons at his disposal. The Italian side have presented their contract proposal to the player.
As Hutton mentioned, however, Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham play an all-attack style of football at the N17 and players like the 22-year-old German are likely to thrive in the system. This is a serious candidate for Spurs.
The good thing for the North London club is that Juventus are yet to open talks with Dortmund over a transfer fee. That will likely be the difficult part of the negotiation and this gives Spurs the time to swoop in.
