Chris Waddle tells Tottenham Hotspur to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze
Ex-Spurs winger Chris Waddle tells Tottenham Hotspur to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer who he regards a “great talent”.
Along with Michael Olise, Eze was Palace’s most influential and exciting player of last season, despite missing a run of games through injury. The 26-year-old came into his own in the last ten games of the season under Oliver Glasner.
The Eagles have already lost Olise to Bayern Munich and could be set to lose Eze to Tottenham. The English attacking midfielder/ winger was on international duty with the Three Lions at the Euros 2024 and had some cameos off the bench.
When he was breaking through at QPR in the Championship, Eze’s playing style was compared to that of a young Raheem Sterling, who has since gone on to become a star for both Liverpool and Man City.
Speaking about Tottenham signing him, here is what Eze had to say, speaking to The Sunday Mirror (28/07, p71):
“He’s a great talent. I think he’d mainly be used in a wide role. He’s got pace, grace and balance. The Spurs fans would love to watch him. He’s definitely a Tottenham player. He would be a great addition”
Waddle is not wrong. Eze is one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League at the moment. At the age of 26, he is no longer a youngster and is at the perfect age to make a step up in his career.
As much as Tottenham fans would hate hearing this, they will have to start planning for life after Son Heung-min. The South Korean is 32. His fitness should see him play at the top level for maybe a couple of seasons.
Eze can initially play instead of both Maddison and Son Heung-min. He can fill in at both attacking midfield and left wing. The 26-year-old’s versatility makes him a great asset to any team and Postecoglou would love to have him.
