Santiago Gimenez hints at potential Feyenoord exit
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to sign a marquee striker in the ongoing summer transfer window, and they have narrowed down the options to a few prospects as of now, with Mexican international Santiago Gimenez being one of the potential candidates to fill the Harry Kane void at White Hart Lane for the next campaign.
He has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs, and now the player has publicly expressed his interest in a possible summer transfer, however, only to a destination that shares his sporting ambitions.
Gimenez fuels Spurs transfer speculation
‘Truly fantastic’ Santiago Gimenez has been impressive for Feyenoord in the last season as he emerged as the third-highest goal scorer in the Dutch top tier with 23 goals and a further tally of 6 assists in 30 appearances.
Speaking to Voetbal Primeur, as quoted by TEAMtalk, Gimenez said:
“There is interest from other clubs, but nothing serious, no offer, or anything like that. So, I focus on the here and now. If there is an opportunity that compares to Feyenoord, then I have to look at it. After that, we’ll see. I’m an ambitious person, but I’m still here, and I have a contract. I’ll do my best for the club until the last day I’m here. The only one who knows whether I am ready for the next step or not is God. He determines my future and whether I am ready for it. I have told CEO Dennis [te Kloese] and manager Brian [Priske] that they do not have to worry about my focus.”
The Buenos Aires-born striker is contracted to his current employers till 2027, although there is still an opportunity that he moves away from Feyenoord this summer.
There has been interest from Spanish and Italian clubs alongside the Premier League giants; however, the start confirmed that despite such interest, there have been no concrete offers just yet.
He spoke about his commitment to the current role at Feyenoord while acknowledging the openness to exploring new possibilities that align with the stature of his current employers and his personal ambitions. Giminez did speak about interests from the club, although he didn’t name any and hinted that he will only consider the possibility of a move away if the opportunity is the right one.
