Emerson Royal could seal Tottenham Hotspur exit this week with AC Milan waiting
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the long-drawn transfer saga surrounding Tottenham Hotspur star Emerson Royal‘s exit and potential move to AC Milan could reach its conclusion by this week.
The journalist has revealed that talks are scheduled to take place today and the transfer could be imminent. Both clubs have been at it for almost the entirety of this transfer window and all parties will want to get done with this. Emerson currently earns around £40,000 per week at Spurs.
Tottenham had the luxury of waiting out and playing the long game because they had no pressure to sell Emerson Royal. Unlike Tanguy Ndombele who they let leave on a free transfer, the club seemed ready to keep the Brazilian.
Emerson for his part seemed to have his mind set on an exit from the club. The 25-year-old failed to make the cut to the Brazilian international squad for the Copa America and realised that he needed to be a regular starter.
That is almost impossible at the N17 considering they have Pedro Porro in the ranks. The Spaniard is a regular starter and one of the best right-backs in the league. Emerson would get game time only if Porro was unavailable for some reason.
Having signed Archie Gray, Spurs don’t need to worry about signing a replacement for the ex-Barcelona man. The teenager can do a job at right-back when needed even if Ange Postecoglou sees him as a midfielder.
It remains to be seen what the final terms of the negotiation are. Whatever fee that Spurs get from this transfer can be used to reinforce the squad in other positions – for example, signing a new striker.
Emerson has been a useful player for Spurs over the years, especially last season under Postecoglou. However, we must understand the player’s desire to move elsewhere in search of regular game time.
