Tottenham set to receive small cash boost from Girona for loaning out Bryan Gil
Out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil is closing in on an exit from the North London club temporarily back to his home country with La Liga surprise package Girona set to loan him for next season.
Spurs signed Gil back in 2020 in a swap deal that saw Erik Lamela join Sevilla but injuries and a general lack of consistency in terms of playstyle has meant that the Spaniard has not hit the heights envisioned for him. Gil currently earns around £40k per week at Spurs.
Back during his time in La Liga, Gil was considered one of the most exciting wingers coming through the ranks and the future of the Spanish national team. The reality couldn’t have been further away from this prediction though.
What Gil needs to regain his confidence might be a move back to his country to a club where he will be a regular starter week in and week out. If he can stay fit, this Girona move could turn out to be very profitable for the player and Tottenham.
Speaking about profits in the short-term though, according to Football Insider, Spurs are set to receive a monetary boost in the range of around £1m in the form of a loan fee from the Champions League club.
Any kind of money is welcome money and despite the loan fee being very marginal, it is still a boost for the club. Tottenham do not look cash-strapped in the market though but Daniel Levy is never the one to say no to such a side benefit.
The real profitability for the club would be if Gil could become a star in La Liga and help increase his market value. It remains to be seen if Girona attempt to keep hold of the player at the end of the season.
Gil is one of those rare wingers in world football who is still traditional in his game style and loves to play on the left, despite being left-footed. He isn’t one of those modern wingers who play on the right to cut inside on his left foot.
