Tottenham linked striker Ivan Toney eager for move, claims former scout
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring a marquee striker through the doors at Hotspur Way in the ongoing summer transfer window, and Brentford ace Ivan Toney has been subject to constant links with a move to White Hart Lane.
Former Lilywhites scout Bryan King wants the club to replace Richarlison with the England international forward this summer. He insists that he doesn’t understand why the club has not brought the former Newcastle United ace to the N17 yet.
This comes following reports by talkSPORT suggesting that Toney’s representatives are hoping for the North Londoners to come up with an offer for the striker, who is prepared to run down his contract with his current employers.
Former scout unleashes truth bomb
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King suggested that Daniel Levy should go ahead and replace Richarlison with Toney.
King said:
“I’m surprised that Toney hasn’t already been signed, to be honest. If they can sell Richarlison then Toney needs to come into the club. It was clear all of last season what Spurs needed, a striker.
“They got rid of Harry Kane and replaced him with Richarlison, who I don’t think is good enough. Toney is a player who has scored goals in the Premier League and made appearances at the Euros.
“If they’re looking for a centre-forward, he is their man, he’s right on their doorstep, and he wants the move. Go out and sign him.”
Toney would love a move to Tottenham, especially considering the project that the club has taken up under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs. And with just one year on his contract with the Bees, he would be available at a fairly cheap cost considering his exceptional quality and presence upfront.
Richarlison has been suffering from consistent injury problems, and the Brazilian couldn’t be relied on as a potential number-one choice in the position. This opens up a space for Toney at White Hart Lane.
His similarity to Harry Kane in playing style, complemented by his experience playing in the Premier League, could be vital for Spurs if they decide to sign him this summer.
