Eberechi Eze currently going nowhere, says Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge
According to Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge, as reported by Caught Offside, Eberechi Eze is currently closer to staying at Crystal Palace for the upcoming season than moving to a new club.
Recently seen representing England at Euro 2024, the 26-year-old has been linked to Man City and Spurs in recent weeks. According to Bridge, however, talks with neither of them have made any significant progress.
“There’s nothing forward in terms of [Eberechi] Eze. I know I’ve seen reports about Manchester City if Kevin de Bruyne was to leave, but Pep Guardiola has come out and said that’s not happening. I know Tottenham like Eze, but my understanding is that there is nothing close for anything in terms of him.
“He hasn’t – as it stands – come out and said he wants to move. Perhaps another season at Palace might do him some good, being the key player there, and then see where he goes with the De Bruyne’s and other key players maybe leaving top clubs.
“Son Heung-min is getting a year older, and maybe just one more season at Palace would do him some good.”
Bridge to GiveMeSport, as quoted by Caught Offside.
Eze has been linked to a move higher up the Premier League table almost ever since he arrived at Selhurst Park in 2020 from Queens Park Rangers in a £16m move.
Palace are currently asking for nearly £70 million for Eze. Given he has three years remaining on his £100k-a-week contract, and the fact that the Eagles have already allowed Michael Olise to leave earlier in the summer, it is unlikely that their asking price will come down.
Crystal Palace kick off their Premier League campaign against Brentford on Sunday, August 18.
Eze ought to move, but there is time
Eze is 26, already in his prime years. Unlike Olise, who is 22, he does not have all the time in the world to pick his next destination.
He does, however, have at least one more season that both he and Palace can take. With his contract running until 2027, and the fact that he’ll be only 27 next summer, he can have another good season at Palace, who are looking likely to have a good time under Oliver Glasner this time around, before moving next summer.
He must not stay at Palace beyond next summer, however, or he’ll end up facing the same fate that befell Wilfried Zaha before him.
