€25m Manchester City player snubbed Tottenham Hotspur to secure Bundesliga move

Yan Couto rejects Spurs move

Tottenham Hotspur expressed keen interest in signing Manchester City full-back Yan Couto this summer owing to his performances in the last season.

The South American fullback enjoyed a magnificent season with Girona last year, and while he is back at the Etihad Stadium, the Brazilian is not among the plans at Manchester City moving forward. And with the Cityzens ready to cash in on him, multiple clubs seem to be willing to land his signatures this summer.

Spurs are one of the clubs linked with a move for the 22-year-old this summer; however, the player has opted against moving to North London, per BILD via. Sport Witness. The player rather prefers moving to Borussia Dortmund, where he will have an opportunity to establish himself at Signal Iduna Park, as they lack depth in the right-back position.

Spurs suffer blow as Couto snubs North London

Yan Couto helped Girona to a top-four finish in La Liga last season, and Spurs expressed interest in landing him as he would only get better with time.

However, Spurs have plenty of options already at right-back. Pedro Porro is an established presence in Ange Postecoglou’s squad, while the club recently added Archie Gray to their squad earlier this summer. The teenager can play as a midfielder as well as in the full-back role on the right side.

Moreover, Djed Spence remains a part of Tottenham despite links with a move away from the N17.

This made it difficult for Tottenham to sign the Brazilian full-back, who was available in a cheap €25 million deal this summer transfer window.

For Tottenham, missing out on his services is not a massive blow, as they are well-stacked in the right-back position, and this will help the club invest more in the positions that Ange wants to upgrade before going into a new season at White Hart Lane.
