Ange praises 18-year-old Tottenham player after Qarabag sacrifice

Wenham backs Bergvall for first-team role

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Lucas Bergvall has been highly praised following his performances in the ongoing pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, and John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes that the Swede starlet is set for a prominent first-team role at White Hart Lane in the next season.

Wenham admits that he previously thought that the teenager would be sent away on loan to aid his development; however, he has come around that chain of thoughts.

Bergvall earns early praise as Spurs eye first-team role

Lucas Bergvall played in all three pre-season games for Ange Postecoglou’s side, and Wenham has been impressed by what he saw in the outings thus far. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:

“Bergvall has slotted in really well at the club. He looks as if he is ready to come in and immediately feature in the first team this season, especially with the UEFA Europa League to come. I thought previously that Tottenham would take a look at him in pre-season and make a decision on whether or not to send him out on loan. However, I get the feeling from what we’ve seen thus far that he can be considered a first-team player already. That is therefore fantastic, as it means we have another midfield option.”

For a teenager to arrive from outside the top five leagues and put in such performances shows the potential and quality that he possesses. Given that it is only pre-season and he would need to put in hard yards over the campaign, the early signs are promising.

The Swede has been showing his prowess for Djurgården for some time now, although it is to be seen how he takes on the football in England. That being said, it is easy to forget that he is still only a teenager and needs space and time to attain his abilities.

If Bergvall continues to develop at this rate, he could become a key asset for the club for a long time to come.
