Spurs eye McTominay amid midfield overhaul

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on bringing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay to White Hart Lane this summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has a dire need to compound on their midfield roster, especially because the club are set to lose Giovani Lo Celso, who is rumoured to follow Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg out the Hotspur Way doors in the ongoing window.

Ange Postecoglou has already added two midfielders to his roster this summer, with Archie Gray coming in from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall making his highly anticipated move from Sweden. That being said, both of the aforementioned names are young players and will need time and space to grow into their potential.

With Scott McTominay’s future at Old Trafford uncertain, Spurs are looking to bring the veteran maestro to the N17. The Scottish international is attracting interest from multiple clubs, including Spurs’ London neighbours Fulham. Erik ten Hag called the player ‘an example to others’ last season.

Per a report by Duncan Castles via The Transfers Podcast, the North Londoners have established interest in the race for United Academy graduate.

McTominay bailed out Erik ten Hag time and time again over the past campaign as he scored some clutch goals to help United out of the hole on multiple occasions. The 27-year-old netted ten goals from the midfield for Manchester Reds last season.

Moreover, his versatile profile has also benefited the Dutch gaffer on multiple fronts.

However, it seems that Scott is no longer part of plans at United, and they are keen to cash in on the 27-year-old, with McTominay‘s contract at United running out next year.

United have already rejected a £20m approach from Fulham for McTominay as they hold out for a £40m fee for the 27-year-old’s signatures.

It will be interesting to see if Levy will be willing to pay such a substantial sum for McTominay, especially considering how Spurs have prioritized buying high-ceiling young talents in the ongoing transfer window instead.
