Atletico Madrid strike agreement for Spurs target Conor Gallagher
With Chelsea planning to sell Conor Gallagher this summer, Tottenham Hotspur are among the interested parties although Atletico Madrid have now struck an agreement with the Blues over his transfer. The Rojiblancos have agreed to a €40 million sum with the west Londoners with a decision on his future now in Gallagher’s hands.
His Chelsea exit does seem imminent, however, as the midfielder turned down a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge in June despite the chance of being one of their best-paid players.
Gallagher’s sale will help Chelsea raise funds this summer as well as alleviate their estimated wage liability worth £2.6 million per year towards the 26-year-old.
All is not dead yet for Tottenham
Though Tottenham have shown a keen interest in purchasing Gallagher, Atletico Madrid’s agreement with Chelsea might mean that a deal for the Englishman is around the corner. However, per the latest update from Fabrizio Romano, Atletico are demanding a final answer by the end of the weekend or a potential deal can collapse.
This puts Chelsea in a tricky situation as it opens up possibilities about the player leaving on a free transfer at the end of his current contract at the Bridge.
However, it could be a blessing for Spurs as it opens doors for Daniel Levy & Co. to pounce on his signatures.
The Lilywhites are yet to even make an offer for Gallagher given that their focus for the near future remains on acquiring a striker before the start of the Premier League season, however, the potential situation could push Spurs into a possible deal with the West Londoners.
Ange Postecoglou’s men get their Premier League season underway against Leicester City in two more weeks and it will be interesting to see how many newer additions are made to the Australian’s squad between now and then.

However, Gallagher’s transfer now looks like a far-fetched possibility as the midfielder might be headed to Atletico Madrid with the La Liga side’s interest at a very advanced stage, however, any detour from a move to the Spanish capital would make a potential move to White Hart Lane probable.
