Federico Chiesa not going to Spurs, says Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano has recently confirmed that there are no concrete talks occurring between Juventus and Spurs over a move for Federico Chiesa this summer.

The Italy international, who won Euro 2020 in England three years ago, has been linked with a move away from Turin all summer, with Spurs and Liverpool having been assumed to be leading the race for the winger in the Premier League.

Juve are willing to let the 26-year-old go for as little as €25 million. There is a story that goes around revealing that back when Cristiano Ronaldo was also at Juventus, there was a game where Chiesa’s performance where he didn’t square a ball back to the Portuguese maestro made him want to punch through a wall.

After Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, Chiesa was regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in world football.

His star has waned spectacularly since then, however. Recurring injury problems coupled with Juve’s steep downturn of fortunes have left him a sporadic feature for the Bianconeri at best.

Last season, Chiesa made just 37 appearances, scoring 10 times and assisting three further goals.

The Italian forward’s €9.26m-per-year contract is set to expire at the end of this season, prompting Juve to invite low-ball offers to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Daniel Levy playing it wise

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is

famously frugal with expenditures, and he’s doing the right thing by not spending the money on Chiesa here.

An injury-prone player who has struggled for form and is in the last year of his contract does not immediately warrant a proactive move from any suitor, especially if he’s to adapt to the Premier League, where few Italians succeed, and that too under an intense coach like Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs are doing the right thing by avoiding Chiesa and are better off chasing someone like Eberechi Eze.
