Gallagher snubs Spurs for Atletico Madrid move

Tottenham Hotspur have had a summer-long saga surrounding a possible move for England international Conor Gallagher, and the North Londoners are set to lose in the race for their prime target coming into the summer transfer window.

Gallagher has been a priority for Ange Postecoglou since he took charge of White Hart Lane last summer. The former Derby midfielder has attributes that can fit impeccably with the Australian gaffer’s playing style.

While the Lilywhites were pursuing a move for Gallagher, they ensured that the midfield roster was set up in a way that the EURO 2024 finalist could walk in and make an impact. The club has already sanctioned a sale for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and is on the verge of losing Giovani Lo Celso this summer. And Daniel Levy will have to ensure he can get sufficient replacements before going into next season.

The window to land Conor Gallagher is closing every second, and it could soon be too late before Tottenham can land his signature.

Spurs links amounted to nothing, and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are set to capitalize on the 24-year-old’s availability in the market. The player has already held positive talks with the La Liga club and has agreed to verbal terms with Diego Simeone’s side, per Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer guru insists that a “Here we go” for a move to Atletico Madrid is expected today, with the player set to pen down a five-year deal at Los Colchoneros.

Mauricio Pochettino tagged Gallagher as ‘priceless,’ and he is set to move to Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano in a €40 million move. This is also the record transfer in Spanish football this summer.

Fabrizio Romano took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and gave the latest update on Gallagher this morning:

Losing Gallagher from the potential arrival list would be a massive setback for the Spurs.

They will soon need to detour to other targets and find another potential player who can add to Ange’s roster and is compatible with his playing style.
