Tottenham target Dominic Solanke shares a thing or two with Harry Kane, and he could match more
With Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke having been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks, his links with Arsenal have emerged.
This is not just because of the fact that Arsenal are also interested in him, but also because the Gunners were his first love in football owing to his father being a fan of the North London Reds.
A recent interview featuring him talking about his Arsenal inclinations from a few months ago has surfaced recently.
Solanke’s Arsenal connection from his childhood days only adds another narrative beat to his possible link-up with Spurs. After all, their former captain Harry Kane was at the Arsenal academy as a kid but remain mostly unfancied.
Of course, for Solanke to take up the mantle Kane left behind as moved to Germany, he’ll need Spurs to match the £65m price tag his current employers have put on him.
The one-cap England international’s £70k-a-week contract at the Vitality Stadium is set to run until June 2027.
Narratives only take you so far
Here’s another thing Solanke has in common with Kane: no club honours at senior level.
Jokes aside, it’s always amusing to find quick bits like these to fuel the narrative pipes furthermore, but we always have to return to reality by reminding ourselves that, ultimately, it’s the results that drive the narrative and not the other way around.
Does Solanke have the ingredients to help Spurs take the next step forward and end their trophy drought in the process? Yes. Will Spurs be taking a huge risk by spending £65 million on him? Also yes. After all, he has had only one near-20-goal season in the Premier League thus far.

But it comes down to how a club assess the potential of a player in terms of how much they’ll be able to realise said potential in their setup. Postecoglou has a track record of making players punch above their level, and he likely ends up doing just that with Solanke.
