Emerson Royal set for AC Milan move, confirms Fabrizio Romano
Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham and AC Milan have agreed terms for the transfer of the former’s Brazilian fullback Emerson Royal to the latter.
Royal had been linked with a move away from North London all summer, with Milan touted as his likeliest destination.
The Brazil international leaves behind a £40k-a-week contract at Spurs that would have run until June 2026.
Royal was a fringe player during Ange Postecoglou‘s first season at the club, having continued to underwhelm ever since moving from Barcelona three years ago in a £25.8m move.
He was part of Spurs’ pre-season squad that toured Asia recently despite being in talks with the Rossoneri.
The Serie A side had seen a €10m offer for the fullback rejected by Spurs earlier in the window, with the Lilywhites insisting on a package worth over €20 million. The two have ostensibly decided to meet each other halfway, though, with a €15m+ package agreed upon.
About time
It’s good that Spurs have decided not to be steadfast in their asking price for Royal and relent a bit to cut their losses.
Royal was not a key part of Postecoglou’s plans going forward; the two parting ways is the best outcome here.
