Tottenham Hotspur have not been afraid to splash the cash on youngsters under Ange Postecoglou, with Archie Gray sealing a £30million switch from Leeds United earlier in this summer transfer window. The Greek-Australian tactician has also seen his club hijack Barcelona’s pursuit of Lucas Bergvall and sign the Swedish talent in an £8.5million deal from Djurgardens after an agreement was reached earlier this year.
With the transfer window in full swing, plenty of young talents have been linked with Spurs. One of those has been Besiktas starlet Semih Kilicsoy. One of the highly-rated young talents in Turkish football, Semih Kilicsoy has caught the eye of several European clubs with his goalscoring exploits for Besiktas last season. He bagged 11 goals in 20 league starts for the Turkish side.
Spurs have also followed the progress of Semih Kilicsoy since his breakout season at Besiktas. They had scouts seemingly kept a close watch on the teenager throughout Turkiye’s campaign at the 2024 European Championships in Germany, although he only managed just a minute on the pitch during their 2-1 quarter-final defeat to the Netherlands.
Now, According to Turkish outlet Sabah (via Sports Witness), Fulham and Aston Villa have registered their interest in Semih Kilicsoy in recent weeks. Both Fulham and Aston Villa had tabled €15m and €18m bids respectively for the teenage forward, which was rejected by Besiktas as they value their player very highly.
The Cottagers and Villa’s bids under €20m getting rebuffed by the Super Lig side may give Tottenham a boost if they decide to land Kilicsoy in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. It also gives a fair idea that the young talent cannot be just lured away for a paltry fee from the Eagles, considering his rise in Turkish football and high potential.
Spurs have agreed a club-record £65m deal with Bournemouth for the signing of Dominic Solanke. The Englishman’s potential acquisition would boost Ange Postecoglou’s attacking ranks while finally giving his team a natural presence at No.9.
In addition to Solanke, there have been reports of the Lilywhites’ interest in targeting another forward before the transfer window slams shut. While the profile of a forward remains unknown, we must test Besiktas’ resolve with an audacious bid for Kilicsoy. The departure of Bryan Gil on loan to Spanish side Girona has vacated a spot in Postecoglou’s squad and we should look to fill it by signing the Besiktas prodigy.
