European giants’ boss greenlights move for £10.2m Tottenham star which would defy Mourinho’s verdict

While Spurs look to finalise their squad before the transfer window slams shut with a last few additions, there are some players on their books to whom they have already shown the exit door.

Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilón are two such players, who were left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and told to find different pastures.

Gil has since been loaned out to Girona for the season, while Reguilón’s future is still up in the air.

That, however, may be about to change.

Hansi Flick gives Barça his blessing for Sergio Reguilón

According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport45, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has approved the club’s pursuit of Reguilón.

The Spain international is keen for regular game time and European football and will be available for around €12 million (Transfermarkt valuation).

His £53k-per-week Spurs contract is set to expire next summer.

Reguilón has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Lilywhites’ coach, Ange Postecoglou, ever since the latter arrived at the club last summer. The Spaniard spent the first half of last season on loan at Man United and the second half on loan at Brentford.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have only one out-and-out left-back in Alejandro Balde, with Marcos Alonso having left the club and João Cancelo returning to Man City after completing his loan spell.

A potential transfer to the Blaugrana for Reguilón would call for an interesting reaction from his former boss José Mourinho, who once had this to say about him:

“I say, from my perspective too, one of the players that could show that Real Madrid’s traditional desire to compete against Barcelona was a kid like

Reguilon, who had a very good approach in both matches.”

You take what you get

Playing for Real Madrid’s arch-rivals is nothing new for Reguilón; he spent a season on loan at Atlético de Madrid in 2022/23.
