Tottenham keeping tabs on the situation of Conor Gallagher at Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur will head into their season-opener against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night with a bit more muscle in the squad, having signed Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert from Bournemouth and Burnley respectively in a short period.
The Lilywhites are now looking to move on players to add fresh blood to the squad, especially in the middle of the park. Academy graduate Oliver Skipp is closing in on a move to newly promoted Leicester City for a fee believed to be in the north of £20m plus £5m in add-ons. His potential sale will create space in the squad for Ange Postecoglou to bring in a new central midfielder before the transfer window slams shut.
According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are monitoring the situation of Conor Gallagher amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at Chelsea.

The England international was very close to joining Atletico Madrid last week—having travelled to Madrid—however, his deal did not go through after Samu Omorodion’s move to Chelsea collapsed in the 11th hour. He waited for five days in Madrid before heading back to London and joining his club, although the midfielder was not involved in the Blues’ opening weekend defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Even though Spurs are waiting for the opportunity to try and hijack a deal for Conor Gallagher, the aforementioned report claims that Chelsea in negotiations with Atletico Madrid for Joao Felix would facilitate a move for the central midfielder to the La Liga side. As a result, Spurs might have to focus on other midfield targets.
Spurs have added young midfielders in the form of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray but they require someone to replace the experienced Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who departed for French side Marseille in this transfer window.
Gallagher, in that regard, would fit that category nicely given his top-flight experience, versatility, potential and international pedigree. However, there are high chances of Atletico still landing their summer’s top midfield target after a move has seemingly looked on the verge of collapsing.
This should be enough of a hint for Spurs to shift their focus to other targets to bolster the midfield unit, and with Skipp close to departing for the Foxes, the arrival of a new central midfielder has to be an absolute necessity.

There is no point waiting for the window of opportunity to potentially steal Gallagher, who is on £50,000 per week contract at Stamford Bridge, from under the noses of Atletico when the Chelsea star has already made his mind up to try a new adventure in Spain.
