The summer transfer window has only just slammed shut, but already reports have started circulating regarding the players the big clubs would like to move for in January.
Such is the cutthroat nature of football at the very top; even when the transfer window is off, there is no rest for the clubs.
To that end, recent reports coming out of Germany are linking a player who has started the season in unexpectedly fine form with a move to North London.
Omar Marmoush touted for a move to North London this January
As reported by Football London, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush is likely to move to the Premier League in January, with both Arsenal and Tottenham monitoring him.
The Egypt international moved to Frankfurt for free only last season and went on to have his most productive campaign to date, with 17 goals and six assists from 41 appearances across all competitions. He has started this season on fire, having registered three goals and an assist in his first three Bundesliga games.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €22 million, Marmoush has in place a €1.6m-per-year contract at Frankfurt that is set to run until June 2027.
Interestingly, Marmoush’s compatriot Mo Salah, whom he is desperate to join in the Premier League, also first arrived in England in January when he moved to Chelsea in 2014.
An understandable interest
Marmoush will turn 26 in February, so he’s not exactly a young up-and-coming forward with many years in front of him. Conversely, Spurs like a forward capable of playing centrally and out wide and both they and Arsenal have already stacked up injuries up front. This helps us understand while all involved parties may try to reach an agreement come January.
It is also important to keep in mind, however, that the interest of the two clubs may change depending on how their fortunes pan out over the next two months. We can also not rule out another club entering the fray.
Also, while it is understandable for Marmoush’s inclination for a move, he just needs to look at Salah’s career to be reminded that not all moves work out, and very much like Salah, not everyone gets a spectacular second shot in the Premier League, so he ought to take his time before making a call.
