Newcastle United enter race for England international linked with a move to Tottenham

published :

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed splendid transfer dealings in the recently concluded summer window as Daniel Levy and his team ensured that the club not only adhered to the incoming request but also ensured that the outgoing business was handled properly. And as Ange Postecoglou deals with getting his squad ready to incorporate the new arrivals, the cubicles at Hotspur Way are already laying down blueprints for the upcoming transfer intervals.

Two-cap England international Angel Gomes has been subject to recent links with a move to White Hart Lane as they look to capitalise on his form in the French league.

Angel Gomes return to England looms large

Angel Gomes could return to Premier League next summer

Angel Gomes is said to be open to possibilities of returning to the English top tier in 2025 amid interest from Tottenham and Manchester United, a club that the 24-year-old knows in and out.

Gomes represented the Manchester Reds ten times before he moved clubs in search of regular first-team football in 2020.

And with his contract expiring in 2025 and the potential of becoming a free agent, he is attracting interest from multiple clubs in the Premiership.

While Spurs only had United to deal with before, Newcastle United have now joined the race to the England international’s signature, per Football Insider. The report describes that Newcastle United hold a “concrete interest” in the player.

Can Tottenham outsmart United and Newcastle for Lille midfielder?

The Toons have been taking advantage of the free agent situation for some time, with the latest on the list being highly touted defender Lloyd Kelly, who joined the St. James Park-based side following the expiration of his contract at Vitality Stadium.

For Tottenham, Newcastle coming in complicates any possible cheap deal as the Toons would go head-to-head with Manchester United on the wage bill to pursue a deal for Gomes. Spurs can try to outsmart their Premier League rivals by pursuing a cheap deal in the upcoming winter window.
