Brennan Johnson was on the score sheet yet again as he helped Tottenham secure three more points in the UEFA Europa League.
The Wales international’s 86th-minute strike effectively secured the win for the Lilywhites, even though they had to endure a late scare in their 2-1 win.
After the game, Johnson deservingly got his plaudits from his manager.
Postecoglou praises Brennan Johnson after another goal-scoring outing against Ferencváros
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was once again tasked with heaping praise on his forward Brennan Johnson after the latter scored yet again during the win over Ferencváros.
“He’s in a great vein of form right now. He’s really confident. They thrive on that sort of stuff, but his numbers have always been good. I was always curious as to why he was singled out because his numbers were always good when stacked up against the other wingers. Now he’s probably ahead of them with his numbers.“
Postecoglou on Johnson after the Ferencváros game, as quoted by Football London.
The 23-year-old has been the in-form player in English football ever since deactivating his socials on the back of receiving abuse.
Johnson now has five goals in nine games across all competitions this season.
Can’t praise Johnson and Postecoglou enough
A lot has been made of late about how deactivating his social media has seen Johnson get this purple patch.
We need to point it out here before Johnson’s case is presented as an example of how player abuse is justified if it gets them to perform well. The abuse he received was unsurprising, yet abhorrent, and should continue to be condemned and discouraged regardless of his exploits on the pitch.
The Welshman and his manager deserve the credit to be able to perform despite the vitriol, not because of it.
