Podcast host ear-marks Tottenham talent Dorrington for much needed loan spell.

Tottneham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been on the receiving end of ample criticism owing to the slow start that the Lilywhites have incurred in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, and Watford icon Troy Deeney has come to defend the Greek-born head coach amid the criticisms coming his way following Spurs latest loss against Brighton.

The North Londoners had turned things around with their five-game unbeaten run as the tings looked on the upside; however, all the grind came crushing down with the humiliating defeat against the Seagulls just before the international break. Spurs were leading the game 2-0 going into halftime, but the visitors looked all over the place at American Express Stadium as Brighton scored three in about twenty minutes to conclude the game with a 3-2 win.

Ange has been on the receiving end of much criticism after the game, but Deeney feels that the manager wasn’t at much fault for the outcome of the fixture. He expressed his sorrow for the Lilywhites boss and criticised the Spurs defence for conceding three times in quick succession.

Speaking recently (via. TikTok), Deeney said:

-> Tottenham star excited to play alongside “fantastic” Premier League veteran “defender”

“I actually feel sorry for the fella, you know. You look at how Spurs play; they play some good stuff, they attack well, and they score loads of goals, but when it comes to defending, people blame the manager for defending, but how can you put on a session that stops people mis-kicking a ball?

“You can’t do anything about poor defending; the last goal, for example, Rutter shouldn’t be getting that; foul him, then when you get to the byline, Bentancur is there; just get it.

“I think when you look at Ange, I would challenge people to look at the goals they concede; they’re not structural damage ones; they’re not struggling; it’s man to man, me vs. you; that’s more mentality.”

Spurs have come a long way under Ange Postecoglou’s tutelage, and Deeney is right when he backs the former Celtic coach to come good at N17. And Spurs supporters would be hoping that the players can quickly learn from their recent mistakes and come back fresh when the Premier League resumes.
