Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Ryan Mason has been making the headlines as he entered into talks with Belgian side Anderlecht about their managerial vacancy.
The Belgian Pro League side have been without a permanent manager since Brian Riemer was relieved of his duties at Lotto Park. David Hubert has been filling as the club looks for long-term replacements.
Spurs coach was chosen to be among the top choice candidates for the role, per journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to give the latest on the managerial change. He wrote:
“Ryan Mason is the young coach chosen by RSC Anderlecht to be Brian Riemer’s successor. As told last Friday, the English coach has been warned [that the club] wanted David Hubert to stay in the first team group.”
Ryan Mason rejects Anderlecht offer for now
Despite the approach from the Belgian side, the coach is set to remain at Hotspur Way for now, per Football.London. This comes after the 33-year-old entered talks with Anderlecht; however, both parties came to a mutual decision that the ‘timing isn’t right.’ The aforementioned report does add that the Enfield-born former Tottenham midfielder is enjoying his time at White Hart Lane and being part of Ange Postecoglou’s project at Tottenham.’

He will continue similar duties at N17.
Ryan Mason entered the world of coaching after he was forced to hang up his boots in 2018, and he initially came back to Hotspur Way to take over a youth coach role. He earned a promotion to head the player development at the club in a couple of years. As his time around the driest team grew, Mason was given the opportunity to coach the senior side on an interim basis twice, aggregating to 13 games with a 46% winning record.

And with Anderlecht giving a serious thought about hiring him, it shows that Mason does have potential to become a valuable asset on the sidelines. While the timing isn’t right at the moment, it’s clear that Mason’s coaching abilities are being recognised beyond White Hart Lane.
