Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has opened up about a controversial decision by Ange Postecoglou.
The Swede midfielder was recently substituted only 12 minutes into the game after Ange Postecoglou was forced to make a change in the Lilywhites Europa League game against Qarabag when Romanian international Radu Dragusin was shown an early red card.
Bergvall, who joined the Lilywhites squad just last summer from Djurgarden, was only making his second start donning the Tottenham badge when the North Londoners beat Azerbaijani champions 3-0 at White Hart Lane.
What Ange said at the time
The teenager looked distraught and frustrated when his number was put up for early withdrawal, and Ange Postecoglou had words of encouragement in his post-game presser, where the Greek-born coach acknowledged the 18-year-old’s quality and how he wanted the player to respond.
Tottenham’s head coach said at the time:
“We entrusted him with starting a really important game for us, so he knows how we feel about him. It was a tactical decision. He was disappointed. I expect him to be disappointed, but he’s going to have plenty of moments like that in his career.“
“It’s always about how you respond to those things and how you grow from those things. He was training this morning—and he was flying—so he’s all good.”
Bergvall opens up about early hook in Europa League clash
The highly regarded maestro is travelling with the Sweden national men’s team for their Nations League fixtures for the October international break against Slovakia and Estonia. And he was quizzed about the early substitution against Qarabag, and he insisted how he was left disappointed while also understanding Ange Postecoglou’s dilemma as well.

Speaking via Football.London, Bergvall said:
“Of course you were disappointed, as you should be. But after that, it was just a matter of letting it go and moving on. I completely understand the decision that he is making. It was just a matter of letting it go and moving on.”
Bergvall is a big talent that Tottenham needs to develop and nurture with time. There should be plenty of opportunities coming his way in the ongoing season, and this response to disappointment shows maturity beyond his years.
