Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has been taking massive strides since he moved to White Hart Lane. He has established himself as one of the better centre-backs in the English top tier since he moved to the N17.
The Spanish fullback moved to the Lilywhites on an initial loan deal from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in the 2022/23 winter window. The transfer was then converted, not a permanent one, in the following summer when Spurs paid £39m for his signatures.
Spurs fullback praises Ange for his development
The £85,000 per week player is a highly offensive fullback, which led to initial criticism around his defensive frailties; however, over the past twelve months or so, the 25-year-old has established himself as an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad. His improvement over the past year also earned him a Spain call-up.
In the ongoing season, Pedro Porto ranks in the club’s top two when it comes to tackles (18), blocks (12), interceptions (10) and chances created (13) in the English top tier. The 25-year-old also netted a goal in this season’s Premier League opener away at King Power.

The aforementioned statistics show how Porro has compounded his defensive skills complemented by keeping his offensive output. And while Ange Postecoglou has been renowned for his highly offensive style of play, the Spain international has given massive credits to the Greek-born head coach for his improvement.
Porro credits Ange
In a recent interview with MaisFutbol, Porro said:
“I would say yes, since I was at Sporting. I’m much better and that’s important. The Premier [League] is very one-on-one and I worked on that well. The coach we have [Postecoglou] works on that especially and, thanks to the work, I improved.”
The 25-year-old has been subject to links with a move to Real Madrid off late as Los Blancos consider him as an alternative to Trent Alexander Arnold; this shows how Porro is growing into his potential over time. And the fact that he has credited Ange Postecoglou shows how the coach has had a massive impact on the squad jointly and severally in the background.
