Tottenham youngster Archie Gray does not want January loan exit

Archie Gray is not interested in leaving Tottenham on loan in January

Archie Gray might not have got as much game time as he might have hoped in his first few months at Tottenham Hotspur, but he has certainly shown a lot of promise.

Having arrived at White Hart Lane from Championship outfit Leeds United in the summer, the teenager has done many things right so far this season. He has already been used across several positions—including as a left-back against Galatasaray in a hostile atmosphere at RAMS Park in the Europa League last week—which is a clear indication that Ange Postecoglou trusts his footballing IQ and tactical acumen.

The Englishman has shown great tactical maturity and understanding for someone so young and is appearing to be growing as a player with every passing game. While Archie Gray has been utilized heavily in cup competitions, it is the Premier League where minutes have been difficult to come by. And owing to a lack of regular opportunities in the top flight, there have been rumours surrounding a probable move away for the youngster from Spurs in the winter transfer window.

However, according to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Archie Gray is not interested in sealing a loan exit from Tottenham in January. The versatile England youth international believes staying in north London will improve his chances of making a breakthrough under Postecoglou.

Gray has been linked with a January move back to his boyhood club Leeds United, while Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has tipped Premier League strugglers Southampton to sign the talent on loan for the rest of the campaign. This is because the Durham-born prodigy has struggled to work his way into the forefront of Big Ange’s plans since his arrival from Elland Road.

The 18-year-old has accumulated only 581 minutes across 11 games in all competitions for the north London club thus far. He is yet to start a Premier League game and has only been restricted to five appearances, as Gray continues to find himself behind the likes of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield pecking order.

Nonetheless, the aforementioned report adds the £75,000-per-week talent, who has headed into the November international break, is not ready to make a temporary switch away from Tottenham as he wants to continue growing in life at the club and fight for his place in Big Ange’s team.

While staying at Spurs and fighting for a spot in the team shows the mentality of Gray, it would be wise for him to leave on loan in January. A move to a Premier League or Championship club, where he would get more playing time than what he is getting at Spurs, might be able to revive his career and give him the push he needs to perform in the Premier League.
