Things are not going according to plan for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the moment. Ange Postecoglou has struggled to find consistency, with one win quickly followed by a defeat. Spurs were left embarrassed over the weekend, handing Ipswich Town their first win of the season
Bentancur has been in fine form for Tottenham, becoming a key figure in Postecoglou’s starting XI. However, frustrating news has already arrived for the Uruguayan, presenting a challenge that Tottenham will need to address as a club.
Postecoglou has been delighted with Bentancur’s performances in recent weeks, but Tottenham could be forced to do without the midfielder for an extended period.
Spurs are preparing for the 27-year-old to miss seven matches, as The Athletic reports the club expects him to receive a lengthy ban. After the international break, Tottenham face a challenging run of Premier League fixtures, including matches against Manchester City, Fulham, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Southampton, and Liverpool, his absence will setback the already injury ridden team. Times are tough for the Lilywhites.
Expert chimes in on the situation
Bentancur has received a lengthy ban, and Tottenham will certainly miss the Uruguayan. He scored and was one of Spurs’ better players against Ipswich, highlighting just how much of a blow this is for Postecoglou. However, Bentancur made a mistake, and it is only right that he faces the consequences.
But there’s an additional problem for Bentancur, as explained by Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold, which could complicate matters further for both the player and the club.
Speaking exclusively to TBR, Alasdair Gold remarked:
“That’s the way around it, of course, is to play Bissouma in the Premier League and Bentancur in the Europa League,”
“You just know it’s going to come at a time when the Europa League games stop, but there is actually also another thing to keep an eye on he’s also on four yellow cards now so one more yellow card and you can be adding another game on any potential ban.”
