Tottenham are reportedly considering re-signing a former midfielder during the January transfer window, despite potentially incurring a £22 million loss on his initial sale. Leicester City’s Harry Winks, who has been a standout performer for the Foxes in their Premier League comeback, is now being linked with a surprise return to north London.

Harry Winks, 28, departed Tottenham for Leicester City in the summer of 2023 following Ange Postecoglou’s arrival, making the move for a modest £10 million to the then-Championship side.

Winks played a key role in helping the Foxes secure an immediate return to the Premier League and has been arguably their standout performer this season. Under Steve Cooper, Leicester currently sit 15th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are reportedly eager to re-sign the now £90,000 per week star and are prepared to pay £32 million (€38m/$40m) for the midfielder’s return. This move would represent a £22 million loss compared to the fee Spurs received when selling him to Leicester City in 2023.

The report highlights Tottenham’s admiration for Winks’ improved maturity and growth as a player since his departure. Despite struggling in his final seasons in north London, Winks has impressed at Leicester, showcasing consistency and leadership.

Ange Postecoglou is believed to be seeking additional midfield options, particularly a box-to-box presence, as he has yet to establish a settled trio in the engine room. Winks could fit that mould, bringing valuable experience and dynamism. However, the reported £32 million price tag raises eyebrows, especially given that the midfielder will turn 29 in February and was previously deemed surplus to requirements under Postecoglou.
