Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son has endured a tough campaign

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-Min Son has endured a difficult campaign. The South Korea international has failed to make an impact for the Lilywhites, and it looks like his time at N17 is running out. With the North London club struggling to carve out positive results in the Premier League, the fans have felt frustrated with the lack of intent from key players. The mediocre performances on the pitch have not helped the cause either.

It is fair to say that Son is a modern-day Spurs legend. The 32-year-old has managed to score 173 goals and provide 98 assists in 451 games for the Lilywhites. His iconic partnership with Harry Kane will always be remembered by the Tottenham fans for years to come. However, it looks like the fuel has run out and there is not much that the star winger can offer to the club.

The Spurs No.7 has failed to make an impact consistently this season. But it is important to note that he has still managed to rack up 11 goals and provide 11 assists in 43 appearances under Ange Postecoglou. The 32-year-old also has the chance to win his first trophy with Tottenham this season, as Ange’s men are still in contention to win the Europa League.

Frank Leboeuf expressed concern over Tottenham star Heung-Min Son’s form

Tottenham are sitting 16th in the Premier League table, and it is fair to say that many players have performed below expectations. One of them is club captain Heung-Min Son. The South Korean international has failed to make an impact and has struggled to find consistency when starting games under Ange Postecoglou. It looks like the Lilywhites need to move on from the winger in the summer.

Frank Leboeuf has also shared concerns about Son’s dismal form. The World Cup winner said ESPN FC,

“Son didn’t exist this season. He wasn’t the skipper that Spurs needed; he had the armband, but he was quite invisible. I’m concerned. He is 32, ok, but I think he still has lots of years to play and show better leadership. Even for himself, be a better football player, as he was before.”

Leboeuf added,

“He completely disappeared this season, I don’t know why. I don’t know if it is because of Postecoglou’s tactics, or his teammates, or himself, but I’m very surprised that his level dropped so much compared to other seasons.”

The ex-France international suggested that Son completely disappeared this season and did not step up when it mattered the most. Leboeuf also suggested that it may be down to the tactics deployed by Ange Postecoglou, or that the South Korea international must be short on confidence. The World Cup winner also questioned Son’s leadership after a dismal season for the Lilywhites.

Daniel Levy has already started looking at replacements for next season. Heung-Min Son recently signed a one-year contract extension at the club, which will keep him at N17 till 2026. It suggests that this summer is the only realistic chance that Tottenham can cash in on the 32-year-old, before letting him go for free next summer.
