Reputable podcaster claims Tottenham academy talent Rio Kyerematen has penned new deal

Tottenham Hotspur academy talent Rio Kyerematen has committed his future to the club by penning a new long-term contract

It has been a disastrous season domestically for Tottenham, one that has seen them lose 21 Premier League games.

Were it not for the bottom three, who have already been relegated, Spurs would be in a genuine relegation battle, something which would have been unthinkable at the season’s opening. They are set to play Manchester United in the Europa League final on May 21, as under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou hopes to end their 17-year trophy drought. Unsurprisingly, however, eyes are already on the upcoming summer transfer window.

In addition, the Hotspur Way chiefs are also trying to sort out contracts for academy talents, who are supposed to be the future of this football club. After Calum Olusesi, Jamal Beggs and Malachi Hardy have penned new deals, recent reports suggest another academy talent has followed suit.

According to reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, Rio Kyerematen has signed a new long-term contract with the club after existing terms were set to expire on 30 June.

Rio Kyerematen joined the Tottenham academy at the age of eight and has since risen through the ranks of our academy. He has been heavily involved with the Spurs Under-18s and Under-23s in recent years, showcasing his talent consistently at the youth level. The 19-year-old has been a regular fixture for the Under-23s this season, racking up a goal and three assists in 19 appearances.

Impressed with his performances, Kyerematen, who is a midfielder by trade but can also operate as a full-back if required, has been called up to the first team a few times by Ange Postecoglou. He was named on the bench in the Europa League game against IF Elfsborg in January, but did not get any minutes.

Daniel Levy is also focusing on sorting out contracts of academy talents at Spurs

Nonetheless, a new deal suggests the club’s faith in the youngster’s talent and potential to develop. Having signed a new long-term contract, he will be hoping for some opportunities to impress in pre-season, or perhaps even some more consistent chances to train with the first team squad. Lilywhite Rose expects Kyerematen to be loaned out next season, which at this stage of his career could prove the right decision.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

A loan move to a lower-tier English league would allow Kyerematen to gain some valuable experience of men’s football. Young and rookie, the former England under-18 international needs to begin his future away temporarily from Spurs in the hopes of securing a spot in the first team.
