Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to strengthen their ranks.

Spurs’ form in the Premier League when compared to Europe has been chalk and cheese. They have struggled domestically all season and sit 17th in the table, with one game to go. In Europe, Ange Postecoglou’s boys have performed very well and reached the final where they will play Manchester United in Bilbao on May 21.

Not only is it a trophy – something thee North Londoners have been thirsting for the past 17 years – but a place in next season’s Champions League is also up for grabs for the winner. Lifting the Europa League trophy would make up for an otherwise torrid domestic campaign, as well as boost the club’s financial power in the transfer market.

Spurs need to bring in midfield reinforcements in the summer. Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur have not been consistent this season, while Lucas Bergvall is still learning his trade. The Lilywhites have only one out-and-out creative midfielder at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal. All the burden to unlock the opposition’s defence from the centre of the pitch relies heavily on James Maddison. The England international has proved to be a crucial player in this setup under Ange, but his patchy injury record leaves the team light.

Angel Gomes pens goodbye message to Lille fans amid Tottenham interest

There is no surprise that Tottenham will look to bring in a quality midfielder in the summer. It was reported last week that Spurs are leading the race for the signing of LOSC Lille star Angel Gomes. There has been all kind of speculation over the Englishman’s future as he nears the end of his contract at Lille.

Now, the Lilywhites have received a massive boost in their efforts to sign Angel Gomes. He has confirmed his exit from the French club as the transfer window approaches. The central midfielder’s contract is up at the end of June, meaning he will leave Lille on a free transfer.

Gomes took to his official Instagram account to break the news. He posted a video montage of is beautiful moments and memories in Lille shirt, with the following words:

“After four unforgettable years at LOSC Lille, it’s time for me to say goodbye. This club has been more than just a team — it’s been a family, a home, and a place that has shaped me both on and off the pitch. Like any journey, there were ups and downs, highs and lows, but I’m truly grateful to my teammates and the fans for sticking with me throughout.

“I’m proud of what we achieved together and thankful for every moment. To the fans — thank you for your amazing support and for believing in me. I will forever be grateful. I always gave everything I had for the badge and for all of you.

“Lille will always have a special place in my heart. Merci et à bientôt.”

It goes without saying that Gomes would be a smart acquisition for Tottenham on a potential free transfer. The ex-Manchester United academy talent has proven his worth on the biggest stages, and at 24, he would give his best years to Spurs if they manage to bring him in to N17.

The diminutive England international, who can operate anywhere across the midfield, has a brilliant passing range—both short and long—and would lift the technical ceiling of the squad. Snapping him up on a free transfer from Lille would enable Daniel Levy to spend the transfer budget on other areas as well in a bid to improve the squad depth for the 2025/26 campaign.
