TottenhamHotspur are unlikely to be on their “A” game against Brighton on Sunday

There is a party mood right now around Tottenham after the North London club ensured Europa League success against Manchester United. The Lilywhites managed to do the unthinkable and ended the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy in spectacular fashion. Winning the competition also ensured Champions League football for next season.

A lot has been said about Spurs’ disastrous domestic campaign. Ange Postecoglou’s men sit 17th in the Premier League table and they are well on their way to record the club’s lowest ever points tally in a single Premier League season. Big Ange has also come under a lot of scrutiny due to the poor form and mediocre performances on the pitch.

But it is fair to say that the players did everything they could to end the season on a high and register a historic result in Bilbao on Wednesday night. The trophy parade in North London that followed the historic achievement was a sight for sore eyes. The celebrations ensured a much-needed connection between the fans and the players after a tough season at N17.

Gus Poyet believes Tottenham could struggle against Brighton

The Europa League celebrations are still going on in North London after Ange’s men defeated Manchester United in Bilbao. Due to the trophy parade and the celebrations that followed after that, it is fair to say that the Lilywhites might not have had the time to prepare for their game against Brighton and Hove Albion. It is the last Premier League game of the season for Spurs, and a chance to end the campaign with a memorable win.

But Gus Poyet believes that Tottenham will struggle to get a result against the Seagulls on Sunday. Speaking to National World, Poyet said,

“I believe it could well be indeed (be a hangover). The celebrations would have gone on long into the night after the final and they have the parade and no time to prepare for the game. Ange could well rotate the team, so some players will be fresher than others, but the hangover will very likely be evident… Brighton can capitalise on this for sure.”

Gus Poyet has suggested that the Europa League celebrations and the trophy parade would have given Ange’s men no time to prepare for the upcoming game against Brighton. The ex-Spurs player insisted that Ange Postecoglou could rotate his team heavily and some fringe players could feature against the Seagulls. Poyet later added that the hangover from the win and the celebrations would still be evident and Brighton could take advantage of that.

Tottenham now have the chance of ending the season with a win and build on the Europa League success in the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites should not get carried away with the success and Daniel Levy must not get complacent if the North London club wants to close the gap on its rivals next season.
