Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has ruled out two stars vs Brighton and Hove Albion at home on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur are champions of Europe after winning the UEFA Europa League, following their 1-0 triumph over Manchester United at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao. The Lilywhites overcame every hurdle thrown their way in Europe, showing different tactical plans across different opposition and situations, which ultimately led to them ending their 17-year-long trophy drought.

Thousands of Spurs fans took to the streets of North London on Friday for the club’s UEFA Europa League trophy parade, with players in a carnival mood. The celebrations and party atmosphere continued well into the night on Friday, as evident by several posts on social media.

However, Ange Postecoglou and Co. have a job to do on Sunday, i.e. face Brighton and Hove Albion at home in their final game of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Tottenham have fulfilled their objective of winning the Europa League trophy and qualifying for the Champions League, so the encounter against Brighton just like the last few league games hold no significant value.

Ange Postecoglou masterminded Tottenham’s Europa League truimph in Bilbao

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ange Postecoglou dropped his latest team news. He has now admitted that some of the players who featured in the Europa League final will not feature in Tottenham’s final league game of the season against Brighton, including Cristian Romero, Heung-min Son, and probably Yves Bissouma.

“Romero has been struggling with his toe for quite a while so we’ll leave him out and probably Sonny because his foot has still not healed. They’ve both sort of made a massive effort to get to the final. Bissouma got a knock in the game and he’s kind of 50/50 at the moment. The rest of them, physically anyway, are ok,” Postecoglou told Football London.

Tottenham players celebrated their hearts out during the bus parade after Europa League success

For those Spurs fans who couldn’t travel to Spain to witness the Europa League final or be a part of the bus parade on Friday, Sunday will be the first time they will get to see the players live at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The home atmosphere has not been great this season understandably due to the team’s wretched Premier League performances and results, but Sunday will be a completely different scenario.

With a result inconsequential, bar the chance to go above Man United should they lose and we win, a celebratory and jubilant atmosphere is expected when Ange’s boys take on Brighton. Perhaps, Sunday’s fixture is also the last we see some of the players donning the famous white shirt, with a squad overhaul potentially on the cards.
