“Different kettle of fish”- Michael Dawson warns ‘highly rated’ manager of tough job amid strong Tottenham links

A summer move to Tottenham is on the cards for Thomas Frank?

There is unrest in North London after Tottenham confirmed the sacking of Ange Postecoglou just two weeks after the Australian led the club to Europa League success. The Lilywhites took the tough call after reviewing the club’s progress in domestic competitions. Daniel Levy thought it was best to shake things up at N17 after the club finished just a place above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Although the Premier League form was unacceptable, Big Ange managed to do the unthinkable and ended the club’s long-standing trophy drought by winning European silverware. His team won the Europa League and by doing that, the North London club confirmed its place in next season’s Champions League as well.

The trophy parade after the Europa League win proved that Ange Postecoglou had managed to get the fans back on his side. Many also believed that winning the competition was enough for the Australian to retain his place at the helm. The 59-year-old also announced in his victory speech that ‘season three’ was going to be better than the previous two seasons.

Tottenham are linked heavily with Brentford boss Thomas Frank as next manager

Daniel Levy is already looking to hire a new manager after sacking Ange Postecoglou on Friday. It was reported earlier that Spurs are advancing in their efforts to hire Brentford boss Thomas Frank as Big Ange’s replacement. If all things go to plan, the Danish tactician will takeover the reigns at N17 and kickstart a new era at Hotspur Way.

However, ex-Spurs player Michael Dawson has warned Thomas Frank about the challenges he will face in North London. Speaking to Sky Sports (via X), Dawson said,

“The job he’s done at Brentford is incredible. Big admirer of him. I do believe he deserves an opportunity at a bigger club. I’m highly complementary of Brentford and the way it’s run. But this is a different kettle of fish when you’re going to a club like Tottenham Hotspur. When you talk about 17 years without a trophy, and you know if you don’t big success, you get sacked. That is it. We’re in this industry and it’s a really tough job.”

Michael Dawson suggested that Thomas Frank has done a brilliant job at Brentford. The ex-player acknowledged Frank’s efforts in making the Bees a stable top-flight team. However, Dawson warned the Danish tactician that managing Spurs will be a tougher task and the 51-year-old will have to bring success immediately, or else he will be sacked in no time.

The first order of business for Thomas Frank would be to get the fans and the players back on board. The players are furious with the club’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou and many key players have also asked to leave the club immediately. If that stands true then the Danish tactician will have to get the house back in order before the start of next season.
