Everton backed to reject Tottenham Hotspur bid for star defender

Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite
Despite winning the UEFA Europa League and subsequently qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season, Tottenham Hotspur have decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou.
Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano says Spurs are now set to accelerate talks with leading contender Thomas Frank to succeed Ange Postecoglou at the helm. Thomas Frank has done a very good job at Brentford since arriving in 2018, overseeing the club’s promotion from the Championship to the Premier League and maintaining their top-flight status.
Once a new head coach is appointed, Daniel Levy’s focus will shift on the transfer market where Spurs have a lot of work to do to upgrade their squad that finished 17th in the Premier League. The Lilywhites are desperate for defensive reinforcements after injuries to their backline ruined their campaign.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were missing for large parts of the campaign due to injury problems. Romero could be heading to La Liga this summer, with Atletico Madrid keen on his signature. Radu Dragusin has been out with an ACL rupture since February, and while the club have confirmed the permanent capture of Kevin Danso from RC Lens, they need more options at the back.

Spurs are reportedly considering a move for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. They are prepared to bid big for the English centre-back, who has been one of the Toffees’ standout performers over the last two seasons.
Now, former Tottenham scout Bryan King thinks the North Londoners will test Everton’s resolve for Jarrad Branthwaite with a £50m bid, although it will likely get rejected.
“Knowing Levy, I would think the first offer would be £50m,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I can’t see him going close to £80million. Tottenham overpaid for Richarlison from Everton. I don’t think they’ll want to do that again.
“I think Branthwaite would be a better signing than Richarlison. However, I still think that Tottenham would stick to £50m as an opening offer, and I think it would be rejected by Everton.”

Everton rejected two Manchester United bids for Branthwaite last summer. The second bid was in the region of £45m. The Englishman’s stock has risen after another decent campaign at Goodison Park, where he played a key role in helping the club finish 13th in the table. Thus, as King claims, if Tottenham make £50m as an opening offer, it is likely to get rejected.

A Premier League proven defender with good age and high potential, the Toffees are certain to value him a lot higher than £50m. If Spurs can agree a fee in the region of £60m for Branthwaite, it’d represent a fantastic long-term investment. However, it will all depend on whether David Moyes and the club would want to sell their star defender this summer.
