Tottenham Hotspur have informed their skipper Son Heung-min that he can leave the club this summer for the right offer
There have been conflicting reports about Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min in recent weeks.
The South Korean is set to complete a decade-long stay at N17 in August. His consistent performances over the years, combined with his unwavering loyalty to the club, earned him the captaincy in the summer of 2023 after Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich. The forward repaid the trust of former boss Ange Postecoglou and the board by lifting Spurs’ first piece of silverware in the form of the Europa League since 2008.
However, now 33 years old, his powers are gradually declining, as evidenced by his dip in performance levels and injury problems last season. This has led to Son Heung-min being linked with a move away from the club, despite having his contract extended until 2026 at the turn of the year.
MLS side Los Angeles FC have shown an interest in signing the Tottenham icon of late, although he is not interested in joining them. There has been interest from Saudi Pro League and Turkish Super Lig too.

However, reports from this week suggested that new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank wants to keep Son in his squad for the 2025/26 season due to his ‘leadership’. The Danish tactician has made it clear to the chairman Daniel Levy that he wants the current captain to remain in North London. But, the latest development surrounding the veteran star’s future is set to surprise the fans.
Son Heung-min made available for sale
Now, according to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, the Tottenham hierarchy have informed Son that he can leave the club this summer for the right offer. He is made available for sale, with the North Londoners still eyeing attacking reinforcements after signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has emerged as a target for Spurs to strengthen their attacking unit. Perhaps if Son departs, the Lilywhites acts and replaces him with Wissa in Thomas Frank’s squad. Graeme Bailey adds if Levy receives a good offer for Son and he gives the green signal, a transfer is more than likely to take place.
“He’s aware that he can leave if there’s a suitable offer. He’s not a cornerstone of what Tottenham are planning going forward. We know Tottenham have brought in Kudus, and they still want to sign Wissa,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.
“I don’t think Tottenham would have any issues if he stayed, but don’t be massively surprised if he moves on by the end of the window.
“He’s definitely available to go, and there are a few options out there for him. But he’s not a key part of Tottenham’s plans going forward.”

Bailey claiming Son is not a key part of the club’s plans moving forward suggests Frank will hand the current skipper a limited role in the squad if he stays. The likes of Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore and Kudus are set to be used regularly on the left flank next season.
The South Asian ace’s impact on the pitch may have diminished but his value off the pitch and around the dressing room still remains high. It will now be up to Son what he wants to do.
